Technology and installation

How does Electric Era work?

Electric Era combines high powered chargers, battery storage, and proprietary software to deliver fast charging sessions to customers while intelligently optimizing power and energy consumption. Our software predicts and adjusts to customer demand, efficiently blending both grid power and battery power to create the highest performance and most economical charging station experience. On-site battery storage can quickly discharge to any charger to support increased power at each port, lowering total power draw from the grid to minimize utility demand charges. That means a higher number of fast charging sessions per day at a lower cost.

What is Command Console?

Command Console is the single stop dashboard providing real-time transparent data of your retail location’s EV fast charging station. It allows station owners and site hosts to monitor performance, revenues, uptime, session data, and costs all in one simple-to-use interface. This information is easy to download or consume via API access, ensuring 24/7 visibility and instantaneous access to key station metrics.

How long does it take to install your charging stations?

Electric Era's patented technology and unique approach means we can install your station in months (down from 2-3 years with other solutions). Electric Era achieves this accelerated timeline through several approaches: minimizing the required transformer size at your station, using standardized and efficiently engineered station designs when possible, and leveraging our combined decades of experience in the retail development space. In most cases, a small pole-mounted transformer is sufficient to bring a site’s grid capacity up to levels necessary for an Electric Era EV Fast Charging Station. Unlike others, Electric Era does not have to wait for years in interconnection queues for expensive grid upgrades.

Electric Era facilitates all aspects of deploying your EV charging station. We handle site design, permitting, utility and AHJ coordination, installation, and commissioning. Once the station is live, we perform all aspects of station operations and maintenance to maintain high uptime and reliability. Electric Era will even coordinate an opening day launch event with you to highlight to your customers the opening of a premium EV charging station at your retail location.

How does Electric Era deliver a high level of station reliability and uptime?

Electric Era enables 98+% uptime per port and industry leading reliability for your stations through a robust system of fault isolation, detection, and recovery (FDIR), supported by our 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) and in-field service partners.

The first step of Electric Era’s system is FDIR algorithms designed by our team of SpaceX veterans. FDIR algorithms are built to autonomously identify and isolate errors. Over 95% of issues are caught by these algorithms, and are constantly evolving to capture more faults. If the fault cannot be recovered autonomously, the system alerts Electric Era's NOC.

The NOC monitors each site via our Command Console dashboard and direct hardware telemetry. On-call operators and engineers receive priority-based alerts in the event of exceptions and can remotely troubleshoot most station faults/errors. When remote recovery is not possible, operators fully diagnose the problem and dispatch maintenance technicians to ensure rapid station recovery in as little as four hours from dispatch.

What uptime guarantee does Electric Era offer?

Electric Era financially guaranteed 98% per port uptime measured across each individual charging port at your location.
For context: the commercial EV charging industry averages 85–92% uptime based on third-party monitoring data. At ~99%+, Electric Era operates 6–13 percentage points above the industry average.

This performance is enabled by two factors: 1. Autonomous fault recovery: our FDIR software detects, isolates, and recovers from most faults without an on-site visit. And 2. 24/7 NOC monitoring: our Network Operations Center monitors every port in real time, with priority-based alerts and four-hour dispatch for issues requiring on-site service.

How do I scale your charging stations to multiple locations?

Electric Era EV charging stations are designed to scale effortlessly across your real estate footprint. Whether you have 5 retail locations or 5,000+, we provide affordable, reliable and high performance EV fast charging. All of your Electric Era charging stations are monitored from one easy to use interface, Command Console, so you can see the combined performance of all stations, or a single station’s performance with the click of a button.

How much maintenance is required?

Electric Era’s operations and maintenance package is your comprehensive parts and labor warranty for your EV fast charging station. You can rest assured that your charging station is being monitored 24/7 by our engineers and NOC, with any necessary service provided by a nation-wide team of in-field maintenance technicians.

Financially backed by a 98%+ uptime per port guarantee, Electric Era makes station reliability seamless with autonomous monitoring and troubleshooting of your charging station, increasing its uptime and revenue. Attract repeat customers to your store with outstanding charging success rate performance and continuous station operations with no headache or oversight needed from you.

Monetization, Costs, and ROI

What ROI can a retailer expect from installing EV charging?

With these high-value revenue streams, Electric Era's payback period on a station investment is as little as 1-3 years – contact Electric Era’s sales team to learn about the revenue generation possibilities and the payback period at your retail locations!

Returns vary by site, but a typical retail deployment (4-stall configuration with battery, strong station utilization, $200K hardware and $125K construction) projects a 5-year payback on charging revenue alone. 10-year IRR runs around 18%, with retail basket lift and available incentives improving both figures further.

Key inputs that drive your return are:
1. Station size, configuration, and construction cost.
2. Daily utilization and charging price per kWh Electricity costs (utility rate + demand charges)
3. Retail uplift — EV drivers who charge spend time in your store

Use our ROI Calculator to model your specific site.

On ownership model: Direct purchase maximizes long-term returns. If upfront capital is a constraint, Charging as a Service (CaaS) and equipment financing offer lower-risk entry points. Federal and state incentives, including NEVI funding, can meaningfully reduce net construction cost. For high-traffic fuel, grocery, and convenience retailers, EV charging is increasingly a revenue center, not just an amenity.

How do you help me attract and retain customers?

Electric Era will open your doors to the new and rapidly growing market segment of EV drivers. Once installed, Electric Era will immediately drive business to your store via visibility across major mapping apps and EV charging discoverability apps, such as Google Maps, Apple Maps, PlugShare, and WEX for fleets.

Your Electric Era EV fast charging station will attract repeat business as EV drivers establish charging routines, similar to refueling habits of combustion engine drivers. Electric Era offers a premium experience due to its efficient, seamless, and pleasant user experience combined with unparalleled uptime.

How do I get an estimate and a site assessment?

To request an estimate and a site feasibility study, please schedule a meeting with Electric Era’s sales team. During this conversation, our experts will work with you to understand your business’s goals for EV charging, your planned installation timeline, and other considerations that affect your fit for an Electric Era EV charging station.

After this initial meeting, Electric Era will complete your feasibility study. To do this, we will need a list of addresses where you are considering installing an EV charging station, and (if available) an electrical utility bill from each site.

EV charging industry

How does Electric Era compare to Tesla Supercharger for businesses?

Tesla launched Supercharger for Business in 2025, allowing businesses to purchase V4 DC fast charging hardware and host it on their property while Tesla handles operations, maintenance, and software.

The programs differ in four meaningful ways:

1. On capital and ownership structure, Tesla requires roughly $1M upfront for an 8-stall site plus an ongoing $0.10/kWh fee to Tesla for operations and software. Electric Era offers flexible models including Charging-as-a-Service with $0 upfront, site host arrangements, and grant funding support for businesses that want to own their infrastructure outright.

On uptime, Tesla guarantees 97%. Electric Era guarantees 98%+ per port — the highest financially-backed guarantee in the industry.
Electric Era also has a 96% positive driver rating on PlugShare.

On discoverability, Tesla routes Tesla drivers to your site, which is a real benefit. But, Tesla's share of new EV registrations is declining and forecast to continue doing so.

On retail integration, Tesla's program allows you to place your logo on their hardware. Electric Era builds charging into your retail operation — loyalty programs, store apps, and an interactive touchscreen that promotes your programs directly at the charger. Putting a sticker on hardware is not a retail integration. Our data shows that location and retail affinity drive utilization more than automatic routing.

If you want reliable DC fast charging at your location with minimal operational involvement, either program can deliver that. If the charging experience is part of how you run your retail business — and you want the economics, the integrations, and the customer relationship to stay yours — that's what Electric Era is built for.

Is Tesla Supercharger reliable enough for a retail business?

Tesla guarantees 97% uptime under their Supercharger for Business program, and their network has a strong reputation among drivers.

Electric Era's standard is higher: We financially guarantee 98% per port uptime. Every station is monitored 24/7 by our Network Operations Center, with autonomous fault detection and remote recovery resolving the majority of issues without an on-site visit. For issues that require a technician, our target dispatch is four hours.

The 1% difference in guaranteed uptime may sound small, but across a multi-port station it compounds — and the financial backing means we have real skin in the game, not just a published number.

What is ChargePoint's new session fee and how does it affect my business?

In March 2026, ChargePoint introduced a network-imposed fee charged directly to drivers on top of whatever pricing the site host has set. The fee is $0.25 per AC session and $0.49 per DC fast charging session for ChargePoint account holders, and higher for guests paying by credit card.

The business impact is twofold. First, drivers experience a higher and less predictable total cost at your chargers — a frustration that reflects on your location, not on ChargePoint. Second, you have no control over it. ChargePoint sets and collects this fee unilaterally; it isn't part of your pricing and you don't receive any of it.

Electric Era allows station owners and operators to control the pricing of their stations. Owners also receive all charging revenue from their stations.

Is ChargePoint reliable? What uptime does it guarantee?

ChargePoint does not publicly guarantee a specific uptime percentage per port, and there is no financial backstop if stations underperform. Because ChargePoint's hardware is host-owned and host-maintained, reliability varies significantly by location — sites where the owner is attentive tend to perform better than those where they aren't. Industry data from J.D. Power, the Alternative Fuels Data Center, and third-party monitoring services puts commercial EV charging networks at 85–92% uptime on average.

Electric Era guarantees 98%+ uptime per port, roughly 6–13 percentage points above the industry average, backed by a contractual SLA with financial consequences if we miss it. Our battery-backed technology keeps stations running, and our self-healing FDIR software (Fault Detection, Isolation, and Recovery) resolves most issues autonomously before they affect drivers.

How does Electric Era compare to EVgo, Electrify America, and Blink?

EVgo, Electrify America, and Blink were largely built around policy obligations and network scale — they operate charging as a standalone service, often under their own brand on your property. That model works if you want a simple revenue stream from unused parking with minimal involvement.

Electric Era is built for retailers who want more. A few meaningful differences:
1. Retail-first by design. Our hardware is unbranded, so your brand stays front and center.
2. Loyalty integration, membership validation, and personalized marketing are built in — not bolted on.
3. Battery-backed stations. Our patented battery-backed design lets chargers draw from the grid and battery simultaneously, reducing utility upgrade requirements, enabling faster deployment, and significantly reducing or eliminating demand charges — a major operating cost at many retail sites.
4. Managed end-to-end. Hardware, software, site design, grant management, and implementation come from one partner. No juggling vendors.
5. Deployment speed. We deploy in weeks to months. Our record is 42 days from contract to live station.
6. Reliability. 98%+ guaranteed per-port uptime and 92%+ session reliability.

If you're a high-traffic fuel, grocery, convenience, or big-box retailer who sees the parking lot as an extension of your brand and customer experience, Electric Era is purpose-built for that.

Government grants and incentives

What tax credits or incentives am I eligible for?

In August of 2022, The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was signed into law, offering federal tax credits to businesses who invest in Energy Storage Technology and Alternative Fuel Vehicle Refueling Property. These investment tax credits help retailers reduce the total cost of deploying electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, cutting the cost by 30-50% depending on location and project specifics. Electric Era has a knowledgeable government affairs team to help you understand the full set of tax credits and incentives available to your business.

What are Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) credits?

LCFS credits are an incentive designed to reduce carbon emissions in California, Oregon, Washington, and other locations. Registered EV charging stations generate LCFS credits, which are valued according to each metric ton of carbon dioxide emissions reduced.

Charging station owners earn thousands of dollars of profit from selling these credits upon a charging station’s activation. Do you have solar onsite? If so, your revenue generation may be even stronger!

Electric Era manages the sale of these credits on behalf of your business to maximize the revenue you receive and collects the nuanced data required to ensure compliance against state reporting audits.

What is NEVI funding?

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) was signed into law in November of 2021. IIJA created the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program which allocated $5+ billion of funding for the deployment of EV fast charging stations along interstate highway corridors around America. Subject to certain criteria, eligible retailers can receive grant funding covering up to 80% of the cost to deploy EV fast charging stations at their properties. Your retail store may be eligible to receive funding if you are within 1 mile of a major highway or interstate and can provide amenities like food, drink, and restrooms to customers while they charge up.
